Checking Disk Space On Hosting Accounts

From time to time we will discover that a website hosting plan has maxed out it's hosting plan disk space.  This usually happens due to an e-mail account that has not been checked in a while and it's filling up with e-mail messages or old statistics are taking up a lot of space.  Either way, if all the disk space is used, the website will not function properly.  Usually the e-mail will jam and the site owner will not be able to send or receive messages from their site which means no one can send them messages from their.

We recommend this check is done monthly:

  1. Log into the site control panel.  You can go www.thewebaddress.com/menu or go to the main page of the site and click the link on the bottom of the main page that reads "Control Panel"
  2. Enter the username and password
  3. Read the Free column of the Disk Quota and make sure it reads more than 1 M. If reads less than 1 M it's getting close and something needs to be done about it (example below reads 5.6 M).
  4. If less than 1 M click the File Manager icon
  5. Then click the link
  6. Once the next screen comes up, examine each mail box account and make sure none of them have more than 750 kb or 1 mb. The example below has 658 kb.   If the account has more than 750 kb or 1 mb contact the customer and let them know they have a mail box that needs to be checked because it's jamming up their website.
  7. If all is well there, click , then click , then click, and delete any folder that has a prior to the current year.  DO NOT DELETE A FOLDER THAT HAS THE CURRENT YEAR.
  8. Once the folder is deleted, click the link and check the disk space again.  If the free Disk Quota is more than 1 M we're ok.  If not contact Robert Spinner to have the site hosting plan updated.

End of instructions.
