Tail Light Replacement Ford Tarus 1998

My mother-in-law had a tail light out so I decided to pop a bulb in there for her. To my surprise it was more involved than I would ever had expected. On my Volvo I open the trunk, twist open a panel and there are the bulbs. In this thing I had to almost take the rear end apart. Anyway, it got it done.

Tools Needed:

3157 Bulb 11 mm Deep Well Socket
Small flat tip screw driver.

Instructions: Read each step in it's entirety before doing the procedure. It will help you avoid breaking parts, harming yourself, etc.

  1. Open the trunk.
  2. Access the back side of the light assembly by moving the inside carpet/fabric. Do this by removing two clips and pushing it aside. They have a tab in the middle of them. Take the small screw driver and pry out the center piece of the plastic retainers. Pull the enter piece all the way out, then pull out the plastic clips, then push the fabric aside.
  3. Remove the 4 bolts that hold the light assembly to the car.
  4. Pull the light assembly away from the car body.
  5. Unplug the electrical wire from the bulb holder.
  6. Twist the bulb holder from the light assembly.
  7. Change the bulb. It simply pulls out of the assembly.
  8. Test your new bulb.
  9. Reverse the steps to put the car back together.
