Kia Rio Camshaft Sensor Replacement 2008 Model

I just replaced the camshaft sensor in a 2008 Kia Rio 5 Speed car (should be the same on 2006 - 2010 cars). The car has 84,000 miles on it and it was stalling randomly. It did have a OBD-II code for the camshaft sensor doing something, sorry I did not write down the actual code.

It took me 40 minutes to find the part in the car, it was still in the box and I was over looking it. Then it took me 12 minutes to change the part and clear the codes. I'm kinda slow so you may be able to do it faster, if the car is cold.

Tools Needed:

1/4" Socket wrench 10mm Socket
1/4" Drive long extension

Instructions:

  1. Open hood.

  2. Locate sensor on the front drivers side of the motor, just below a heater hose kinda behind/beside the exhaust manifold, on the block.

  3. Unplug the o2 sensor.

  4. Unplug the camshaft sensor.

  5. Unhook the camshaft sensor wire harness from the clip it's in.

  6. Unbolt the sensor with a 1/4" drive, 10mm socket with long extension.

  7. Pull the sensor out.

  8. Make sure you remove the old sensor seal.

  9. Insert the new sensor and tighten it down.

  10. Put the sensor plug in the holder and plug it in.

  11. Plug in the o2 sensor.

  12. Start the car to make sure it starts.

  13. Clear the code.
